Can You Identify This Old Aberdeen Home?
The Aberdeen Dwelling Previously Known As "Die Erf"
Call back the past! I recently received a lot of info and old photographs of Aberdeen from a lady in Denmark whose grandmother used to live in the town and owned "Die Denne Boarding House" (now Karoo Moons) in Darling Street. Her grandfather was Scribe for the NG Church circa the 1930's and his parents also used to live in Aberdeen in Cathcart Street. As a child, she used to spend most of her holidays in Aberdeen and remembers much of the old town. Her grandmother, along with two others, was tragically knocked down by a motor vehicle in front of the NG Church and subsequently passed away as a result of her injuries.
The Beautiful Garden Of "Die Erf"
One of the sets of photographs the lady dug out of her veritable "Pandora's Box" (in her cellar in Denmark!) was of a dwelling just entitled "Die Erf" and it seems to hold a lot of significance within her family. Unfortunately there was no further info on the house nor its location to be found in her own personal records. Do any of you (or your parents who used to live in Aberdeen) recognise the dwelling and can provide more information on it? Is it still standing in its original form or is it now modified?
Footnote: "Die Erf" has been identified and details have been returned to the lady in Denmark. Thanks to the lady who presented the info as well as the others for correspondence and photos received.

Aberdeen Blessed With A Rainstorm
Aberdeen was blessed with a much needed rainstorm on Thursday 14 January 2010. The town received 35 millimeters of rain in about the same amount of time. Wonderful for the thirsty soil and plants of Aberdeen as well as for the filling of all the water tanks and dams in the area. Even the Kraai River was flowing again and it was bliss for the children in the water all over the town. Enjoy the images as much as our town enjoyed the rain...

Christmas Lunch For Less Fortunate Children
Non-profit organization, "The Samaritan", hosted a first ever Christmas Lunch for over 50 less fortunate children from the townships in and around Aberdeen. The event took place on Sunday, 20 December 2009 in the Lotusville Community Hall. The Christmas lunch was the culmination a year of which healthy cooked meals were provided on a weekly basis to the children of Thembalesiwe, Hagenheim and Lotusville.
The Christmas lunch was attended by Councilor Jacobs, who was also the guest speaker at the event. Councilor Jacobs brought Christmas messages of hope and well wishes from Council, especially Mayor Jephta, to the children who attended the event. Cllr Jacobs commended “The Samaritan” as a community organization for their work they are doing in the communities of Aberdeen and pledged his support for projects envisaged by the organization in and around Aberdeen.
