Another Evening of Poetry and Music in Aberdeen

Many Aberdeen residents will remember with pleasure the last Evening of Poetry and Music held at the Aberdeen Club in October 2009. That was in aid of the Aberdeen Hospital, and provided a water cooler, hot water urn, and a new supply of cutlery for the hospital.

The good news is that this event is to take place again on the evening of March 8th, a Thursday.  It will be sponsored by Aberdeen Books and Crafts with the NGK Aberdeen.  Be sure to mark it in your diary, as this is an unusual event and definitely not to be missed.  This year, the evening is to be in aid of the Aalwynhof Old Age Home in Aberdeen, and the venue will be the NGK Hall in Aberdeen, with the usual superb catering by the ladies of the Church.

The magical evening will include live readings of some exciting poems you may remember from your schooldays, as well as ones which may be new to you, all accompanied by dramatic visual and sound effects with appropriate musical accompaniment.  The lead performer and MC will be Peter Shaw of Aberdeen Books and Crafts, supported by numerous other well known Aberdeen residents.

Poetry (both in English and in Afrikaans) will be from such poets as Rudyard Kipling, William Shakespeare, D H Lawrence, Sir John Betjeman, William Butler Yeats, Rupert Brooke, Christina Rosetti, Louis Macneice, Thomas Hardy, and many others.

The programme will also include live music performed by local artists, and a surprise treat (perhaps again from the world of Opera or Ballet!).

The price of tickets has not yet been decided, but will be as affordable as possible bearing in mind that it includes dinner as well as the show!

For further information and reservations please contact Sue on 083 794 2262. Seats are strictly limited and allocated on a first come first serve basis, so get in early while you can!
