Gloria’s Birthday At Tohito

Gloria Penniston and her three daughters,
Sharon Landman, Terry vd Merwe and Tanya vd Merwe

After the recent welcome rains, Gloria Penniston and her family and friends gathered in the beautiful gardens of Tohito to celebrate one of the first birthdays of the year amongst the Aberdeen Book Club fraternity. The celebration took place on a bright and sunny day under the shade of the tall leafy trees on park like lawns with an almost sub-tropical feel to the surrounding gardens. Well fed omo-like white doves were nesting nearby, and a more tranquil setting could not be imagined. With humidity at a high level, it was difficult to believe this event was taking place in the in the Karoo, where everyone constantly prays for rain.

Mabel Joubert was, as usual, the perfect hostess, and gaily decorated tables set with large jugs of champagne and orange juice and a birthday cake decorated with fresh pink roses completed the setting.
It was celebration of much laughter and created a warm and happy vibe on which to start the New Year. Thank You Gloria and Happy Birthday!!

Aberdeen Book Club’s First Meeting Of 2011

(fltr) Gaye Day, Sandra Bowker, Gloria Penniston and Terry vd Merwe

January’s meeting of the Aberdeen Book Club got off to a slow start with some members still away on holiday and others still busy with last years' challenges. However it was a good and happy meeting to start off 2011, with best sellers available which were released during the Christmas period. It was also very pleasant to get back into the routine of reading and having a reliable source of good books in the Club.
